GROWN IN SOMERSET
Here at English Garden Flowers, varieties are available according to season, including roses, dahlias, delphiniums, foxgloves, snapdragons, anemones, peonies, sweet peas, hydrangea, sweet Williams and many others.
I grow traditional cottage garden favourites whilst at the same time keeping abreast with trends in floral design enabling me to create bouquets and supply wedding florists with the flowers that brides currently request.
A range of foliages provide the perfect foil for flowers and I love to use herbs such as marjoram, apple mint and lemon balm which add delicious scent.
Flowers evocative of the countryside such as corncockle and camomile support the bees and add charm to bouquets and arrangements.
WHY BUY BRITISH FLOWERS?
Imported goods come with a very heavy carbon footprint, especially perishables like flowers, which have to be flown from where they are grown, some from as far away as Columbia to European markets and on by lorry to retailers.
Most imported flowers contain huge amounts of preservatives and pesticides which are banned in this country and are highly toxic to humans as well as insects (never put these on a compost heap which will be used to grow food crops).
Buying locally grown flowers from a responsible grower gives you the assurance the flowers are genuinely “eco-friendly”.
It is kinder to the planet to buy local, with the added benefit of keeping money circulating in the local economy
I garden in harmony with the natural environment, caring for the soil and without using pesticides.
This approach provides a safe environment for invertebrates, insects, amphibians and birds, which in turn helps control pests.
Sustainable floristry is at the heart of what I do and I never use floral foam, a single use plastic which pollutes waterways with micro particles as it breaks down and is not bio-degradable.
A large range of flowers and foliage is available throughout the seasons, and if I need to supplement my stock, I source from other British growers.
Please feel free to contact me to enquire what is available.
I am a member of Flowers from the Farm, a network of British growers who collaborate to grow and promote British flowers.
